United States "Hard Times Tokens" 1834-1844

Introduction

President Andrew Jackson withdrew the Government's treasury funds from the Second Bank of the United States.  He believed that too much of the financial power of the country rested in private hands.  The immediate result was the tightening of money, and the failure of many banks and businesses.  These were known as the "hard times" and many tokens, patriotic, satirical, and for advertising purposes, were issued.  A fun series to collect.
